A: On Michela Brambilla
Honourable Minister Brambilla,
We are a group of professional translators and interpreters. We read today in the international translation portal ProZ the following announcement:
http://www.proz.com/translation-jobs/390295
Dear Translators,
we are looking for new employees to be included in a translation project of the Ministry of Tourism .
The body is sending us and we will send all the material on this site 2010 www.italia.it be translated into English, French, German and English. The "folder" is dictated by the Ministry of 2600 characters (?) And the price is 9 € gross payment in 90 days (there are always conditions of the ministry).
It 's a very low price but you have to think about the amount and continuity of work.
If you are interested to work you can contact me via mail, telephone or skype.
We have to assign the file to be translated with some urgency.
Thanks for your cooperation. Sincerely
The ad is placed by the agency [snip].
would like to know, as members of a class consisting of professionals working in the language field, if as indicated in the advertisement regarding rates and payment terms is true.
A professional translator to do his job well means an average of 10-12 folders to 1500 characters per day, equivalent to about 6-7 folders to 2600 characters. That proposal is, therefore, at a rate of 54-63 euro gross per day, at an average of € 25-30 excluding social security contributions and taxes. In other words, 9 € gross per page of 2600 characters match, with the same purchasing power, the daily wage of a worker in an Indonesian sweatshop. A minimum charge reasonable effort and quality required should be at least triple.
that proposal and, in short, a fee is completely unacceptable and demeaning to our profession already mistreated. If the rates offered by the Ministry to its translators are these, no wonder that the site www.italia.it be full of gross blunders and embarrassing, that give a bad image of our country in the world.
We wonder if the image abroad and the development of its human resources is not an investment worth perhaps more aligned with the type of service required and its scope.
Some of your kind feedback, best regards
